Inter-regional Competition
Redbridge, Sunday April 26th 2009
Because Prep A and B floor routines do not have a National Final, the Southern Region Committee hosted an Inter-regional Competition for these levels based on the top four positions achieved at the Prelims in February.
It was a surprisingly large event with competitors from the Southern, South West, South East, London and West Midlands regions attending.
So it was with a great deal of apprehension and nerves that
Amy and Carys performed their Prep B routine. And they performed it brilliantly to take a well deserved 11th place out of the 20 pairs competing.
Well done girls

Another week, another competition!
The Hampshire Championships
Andover, Sunday May 3rd 2009
On the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend, we travelled to Andover for the Hampshire Open Championships. And what a good day it turned out to be for most of us, despite the many hiccups along the way.
The highlights were –
Katie romping home with Gold by over two whole marks and Heather collecting Silver in the Regional B Women’s Tumbling. Boston in her first tumbling competition finished a creditable 6th.
Elizabeth just edging out the Test Valley girls in the Regional C Tumbling to pick up the first of her two Golds.
Delisa winning Silver in the National 1 Tumbling.
On the floor at Prep A level there were only five entries and all from Testwood, so it was just a case of who would get the medals. The answer was Elizabeth (again!) and Zoe with Gold, Hannah and Boston with Silver and Sophie and Katie (again!) with the Bronze.
In a ridiculous error, the organisers had published the scores for this level earlier, which showed Hannah and Boston as tying for Gold, so they were understandably devastated to only be awarded Silver without anyone having even spoken to them about the change. Unforgivable. Fortunately both girls have taken this setback with good grace, but this coupled with the dreadful organisation has made me seriously consider whether we shall enter this competition again.
In Prep B pairs with only three entries, it was a case of what colour medal would Vicky and Heather (again!) get. We didn’t need to worry, Gold was theirs!
At Grade 1 level, the organisers had strangely decided that pairs and trios would compete together (?!?). And then in another error, the scoring was calculated in the correct way by the judges but another way by the scorer (!!!) Sara, Rachael and Katy in their final competition together were placed 3rd by the judges with Emma and Megan just behind in 4th. However the published scores moved them down to 7th and 8th. What a mess!
Nevertheless, with 8 medals and 4 Hampshire Champions, I think we can count the day as a success for us!
Well done girls and boy for making us proud again!
A DVD of the competition is available.
