The Club Championships & the Summer Competition 2005
Just like buses, you don’t get a competition for months and then two come along in three weeks!!!
The Sports Acro Club Championships - Just like the last five years Testwood scooped a bagful of medals again with 14 of our Senior gymnasts winning at least one each, and for the first time ever, four of our Juniors doing the same. Well done everyone!
The Summer Competition - What a long day last Sunday was! Up at 5.30am for the drive to Milton Keynes, and not home until 8.30pm!
But the competition was amazing. We saw some of the best gymnasts from the whole region, right up to the International level.
When you come up again these big clubs where many of their gymnasts train several times each week, it is a wonderful experience for our 'once-a-weekers' to see what it is possible to achieve. It always seems to spur them on in their own training.
While some of our gymnasts were getting that dreaded first competition under their belts, even some of the old hands were showing nerves. But everybody achieved very good scores, and whilst we did not win any medals here, we came very close with a 4th and 5th place in Regional 2 tumbling (where there were 44 entries!) and another 4th in Regional Novice Pairs. A brilliant achievement considering the quality of the other gymnasts.
This competition is different to all the others because it is also a team competition. Clubs nominate gymnasts in specific disciplines and their scores are totalled to give a Team Score. So you are not just competing for yourself, you are helping your team as well.
All five of our Women's Pairs were in the Southampton Novice B team which came 2nd. Sara's trio was in the Junior Team which came 1st and James was in the Regional Tumbling team which also won!
Congratulations to all our competitors and thank you to all who made the journeys to Redbridge and Milton Keynes.
