The Club Championships - 14th March 2010
Just eight days after the National Prelims competition, along comes the Southampton Acro Club Championships.
It was probably the most badly organised competition we have ever been to, but the results were the best we have ever achieved!
With two-thirds of the total entries being Testwood, we were guaranteed 50% of the medals so we were very happy that ......................
88% of all the medals were Testwood !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of a possible 25 medals that we could have won, we won 22.
In Regional A Women's Tumbling, we were assured of all the medals (as we were the only ones in it!), it was just a case of who would get them. In the end Nikki was the runaway winner with Jessie and Estelle collecting the other medals. Sadly one of several mistakes by the scorers meant that Estelle doesn't know about her medal yet (but she will do at our training session tonight!)
Megan, who has only just come up from the Juniors, finished just outside the medals in 4th.
Little Joey was the only one in the Men's tumbling at the same level but still produced a good display averaging over 8.00 for his three runs.
In Regional B Women's Tumbling there was a Test Valley girl entered, so we were not guaranteed (!) all of the medals, but as it turned out Boston tied with her for the Gold, while Sophie and Zoe W got the other medals.
The same situation happened in Regional C Women's Tumbling, but this time Katie took Gold with
Katy and Hannah picking up the other medals and seeing the Test Valley girl into 4th place.
Callum is overcoming his nerves better with each competition and whilst he was the only one in the Men's Tumbling, like Joey he averaged over 8.00 for his runs.
Following a tie for 1st place in Regional D Women's Tumbling, Zoe
G was awarded Bronze in her first outing at this level.
National 1 Women's Tumbling saw Heather producing a clean performance to pick up Silver with Amy hot on her heels in Bronze.
Liam in the Men's Tumbling and Jon-Luc in the next level up were both lone competitors, but Liam averaged over 8.50 with Run 3 producing 9.00. Jon-Luc went one better, averaging 8.80 with Run 3 scoring 9.15.
On the floor, there were not so many guaranteed medals because there were more competitors in each level. However that made no difference to us in Prep B Women's Pairs with Hannah & Boston, Katy & Zoe G and Sophie & Zoe C seeing off the rest and picking up the medals.
Jon-Luc & Callum repeated their Prelims victory in the Men's Pairs, even though a dropped balance pulled their score down.
Prep B Women's Groups was a level where we were very confident of taking Gold with Kayleigh, Nikita and Nikki, but sadly that was not to be as Nikita was taken into hospital on Friday. She is now getting better and can't wait to come back at the next competition! It was interesting to note that their score at the Prelims (where judging is always harder) was actually 0.65 more than the trio who won here.
A bit of a fumble sadly saw Rachael & Katie slip to the Silver medal in Grade 1 Women's Pairs.
Grade 1 Women's Groups saw the biggest winning margin of the day with Emma, Amy & Carys well clear in Gold by over one whole mark
! They also got the highest Technical and highest Artistry scores of the day. I am sure that they will be the first to thank Matt & Hayley for the help they gave them with their choreography which clearly showed in their routine.
Finally it was a two horse race in Grade 2 Women's Pairs, but Chloe & Heather just eased into Gold ahead of the Test Valley pair.
So with 11 Golds, 6 Silvers and 5 Bronze, I think we can say that we had a good day at the office!!!
Well done Testwood gymnasts, for once again making us proud!
