The Prelims - 5th March 2011

With just a trio at Grade 2 entered (for the whole of Southampton) our Emma, Amy and Carys were looking forward to possibly getting a medal at the Senior competition of the year. Sadly a couple of wobbles saw them just edged into 4th place by a measly 0.12, but realising just how close they were has only made them more determined for next time. We look forward to their new routine and music and renewed enthusiasm for the Summer Competition. Well done girls!

Club Championships - 13th March 2011

Just like last year, only eight days after the National Prelims competition, along comes the Southampton Acro Club Championships.

The competition was smaller this year (and better organised), but we were not able to maintain our fantastic result from last year when we took 88% of all the available medals. This year it was only 77% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals, it was only in the Regional B tumbling that we missed out (and there we finished in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places!) So out of a possible 13 medals that we could have won, we won 10.

In Regional A Women's Tumbling, we were assured of all the medals (as we were the only ones in it!), it was just a case of who would get them. In the end Chloe took Gold with Juniors Hannah and Mia collecting the other medals. Sadly a miscount of her cartwheels dropped Emily into 4th place when a medal had looked a distinct possibility.

It was not our day in Regional B Women's Tumbling with Test Valley taking all the medals this time. Boston was edged into 4th place by 0.05 with Estelle in 5th, Ellen 6th, Zoe 7th and Daniella 8th. There was less than a whole mark between 4th and 8th and only 0.3 between 1st and 4th! So near yet so far!

In Regional C Women's Tumbling, Katie was facing four Test Valley girls but still took Gold comfortably.

National 1 Women's Tumbling Jessica was the sole entry, but picked up the Gold with runs averaging more than a creditable 8.6.

On the floor, in Prep A Women's Pairs the very recently formed partnership of Ellen and Chloe took Silver, which could so easily have been Gold but for a couple of time faults.

Boston & Kelly have also not been together for long at Prep B, and like the Prep A pair they took Silver with a clean performance.

Prep B Women's Groups saw new trio Stephanie, Emily and Bethan collect Silver pushing Katie, Zoe and Estelle into Bronze.

Grade 2 Women's Groups was our only other entry and we looked forward to seeing our two senior trios lock horns for the first time. As it turned out, both groups had falls which lost points, but both routines were easily the best and most intricate performances of the day. Emerging victorious on this occasion were Carly, Lauren and Jessica with Emma, Amy and Carys taking the Silver. So it is bragging rights for Lauren over her sister Amy for now (until the next competition maybe!!!).

So just like last year (in fact just like the last ten years!), we have again taken the majority of the medals at this competition.

Well done Testwood gymnasts, for once again making us proud!

Next year, there are only two objectives -

All the Golds and 100% of the medals!
